A lot of the features offered by many of Fitbit’s top fitness trackers overlap because the company’s tracker selection has expanded over several years.

However, we have long believed that the Fitbit Versa 3 is the model to choose if you’re looking for the best Fitbit. It cost a lot less and had many of the same features as the much more expensive Fitbit Sense. It also had a great design. With the release of a new model, the Fitbit Versa 3 vs. Versa 4 debate becomes a little more complicated.

The good news is that there are a few minor differences between the two excellent smartwatches. Given how excellent the Versa 3 has been, that may not be the worst thing; in fact, the Versa 4 feels more like an evolution than a revolution.

This guide, which compares the Fitbit Versa 3 and Versa 4’s features, pricing, and designs, will help you choose between the two Fitbit Versa models if you have your eye on one.

WHICH IS CHEAPER?

With a starting price of $150, the Fitbit Versa 3 is now directly competing with Fitbit’s own Luxe and Charge 5 trackers. The Versa 3 first debuted in September 2020 for a not insignificant price of $230/£199.99.

In contrast, the Versa 4 debuted in September 2022 for the same price, but Amazon’s Black Friday deals have already reduced the price to the same level. You’ll probably be delighted if you can purchase the Versa 4 for $150.

WHICH IS MORE ACCURATE?

Given that the Versa 3 and Versa 4 contain a lot of the same items, this is a challenging request.

Both devices provide superior heart rate and Sp02 (blood oxygen) monitoring in addition to the customary step counting, calories burned, and distance measurements. The Versa 3 and Versa 4 both offer GPS connectivity, unlike the Luxe, so you can leave your phone at home (although you shouldn’t if you want to listen to music, as we’ll discuss shortly).

Fitbit’s own library of workout options is the main benefit of choosing the Versa 4 over its older sibling. Although the company has always offered options for activities like running, swimming, hiking, and more, there are now 40 options (up from the Versa 3’s 20 options), which include both new cardio options like dancing as well as more equipment-focused exercises like weightlifting.

WHICH LOOKS BETTER?

Fitbit hasn’t made many changes to the Versa 4’s appearance compared to the Versa 3. In essence, the Fitbit Sense and Sense 2’s chassis is being used by both devices to house their sensors and gadgets.

The main distinction is that the Versa 4 offers a side button similar to the Sense 2, as opposed to the Versa 3’s capacitive touch button. Although it still performs the same function, it should be simpler to press with perspirant hands.

Although it’s highly unlikely that you’d notice either of those differences in the Versa 4’s proportions, it is also 1.2 mm thinner and 2 g heavier than its predecessor.

WHICH MODEL OFFERS MORE FEATURES?

The eventual integration of Google Assistant is the primary distinction between the two models. For those who were unaware, Google now owns Fitbit. As a result, many people anticipated more conventional smartwatch features like third-party apps and closer phone integration.

It hasn’t actually happened, and while it might in the future, only Google Assistant is currently confirmed to do so. The Versa 3 comes with Fitbit’s own version of Google Pay, which is significantly inferior. On the plus side, Google Pay is already available.

WHICH IS BETTER FOR TRACKING WORKOUTS?

There is nothing you can do on the Versa 4 that you can’t do on the Versa 3, with the exception of the expanded workout options we mentioned earlier. Things are very accurate thanks to the integrated GPS, and the display is bright-day-viewable.

Both companies provide Fitbit Premium, which includes guided programs for exercising, relaxing, practicing mindfulness or meditation, and sleeping, and which helps users improve their daily readiness score. You can push yourself more forcefully and safely the higher your score is.

WHICH HAS A BETTER BATTERY LIFE?

On both models, the battery life is the same, lasting six days. It’s a bit less than the Fitbit trackers with smaller screens, but that was to be expected given the larger screen.

Though this device does more, it still has a battery life that is much longer than the Apple Watch’s one to two days.

VERDICT

The Versa 3 and Versa 4 have nearly identical battery life, features, and design, but the Versa 4 offers more workout options and will eventually feature Google Assistant, making it worthwhile to upgrade given that the Versa 3 is already more than two years old.

Despite this, we’d still prefer to purchase it at a discount whenever possible because the new features are debatably worth the price of entry.
